Teen driver hits pedestrian in Dexter Tuesday

A 15-year-old driver injured a pedestrian in Dexter Tuesday when he struck the man with his car, according to a report from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, Asa J. Muntz of Dexter was driving a 1994 Chevy S10 on Kansas Avenue just east of Main when he hit pedestrian Joseph A. Hemel, 20, also of Dexter. Hemel was attempting to cross the street at the time of the accident, the report said.

Hemel was injured but was not transported to a hospital by ambulance.

The accident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. No citations were issued at the scene, according to Undersheriff Don Read.

Muntz was driving on a restricted license to and from a school function at the time of the accident, Read said.
