Alcohol may have contributed to Sun. wreck

A man was ejected from his vehicle and injured early Sunday morning after he crossed the centerline and hit a trailer being pulled by a pickup. The accident occurred on U.S. 166 highway near Dexter.

Ryan Lee Irving, 25, of Oklahoma, was eastbound on 166 as it approached a truck and trailer traveling west. The driver of the truck and trailer, Preston Dreiling, 25, of Hays, reported that Irving crossed the centerline.

When Dreiling swerved to miss Irving’s truck, Irving struck Dreiling’s trailer.

The accident happened around 4:15 a.m. about a half mile from the K-15 junction. A report from the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office indicates alcohol was a contributing factor. Irving was tested at the scene and results are pending.

Irving was injured and taken to an Ark City hospital.
