Warrant out for 3rd person in Wal-Mart thefts

A warrant has been issued for a third Wichita person wanted in connection with a theft ring targeting Wal-Mart stores in southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma, Winfield Police Chief Jerry DeVore said. Authorities have not yet located the woman, he said.

Two other Wichita residents have been guests in the Cowley County Jail since arrested Jan. 31 at the Wal-Mart store in Winfield. Mandy Crandall, 24, and Christopher Boehm, 26, were arrested as Crandall was trying to get property worth about $1,000 out a fire exit door to where Boehm was waiting to load the stolen property onto a stolen pickup, police said.

Area police departments and Wal-Mart security officers have been working together to bust the theft ring. Winfield Police Lt. Frank Owens has been involved in the investigation and just happened to be in the store when a security officer recognized Crandall and alerted Owens.

The two were booked into the jail on numerous charges but have not yet been formally charged in Cowley County District Court in Winfield.
