Just 2 on drug task force list remain at large

Just two people remain at large from a list of 20 alleged drug offenders that were targeted as part of a wide-scale investigation conducted by the Cowley County Drug Task, according to Lt. Frank Owens of the Winfield Police Department.

Glen Dale Berry Jr. and Rachel Whitlock have yet to be arrested on warrants that were issued in early January as part of an operation involving a number of area law enforcement agencies. Arrests were made in Arkansas City, Winfield and Wichita as part of the probe.

Information received by investigators has led to the conclusion that Whitlock has left the state and perhaps headed to Texas, Owens said. Conflicting information has been received about Berry’s whereabouts.

“We’ve heard he’s out of state, we hear he’s in the state,” Owens said. “It’s just a matter of tracking him down at this point.”

Those on the list sold drugs to a police informant one or more times during the course of a six- to eight-month long investigation, he said.

Names and photos for those facing charges were posted on the local cable television station in Winfield. Drugs purchased by informants for police included small quantities of marijuana and up to an ounce of meth or cocaine.
