County to test tornado sirens starting Tues.

The annual state-wide test of the outdoor tornado warning system will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

After that, weekly tests in Cowley County will be conducted at noon on Tuesdays, according to Cowley County Emergency Manager Brian Stone.

There is concern among those involved in severe weather activities that this tornado season will arrive earlier than usual.

Tornadoes can occur at any time during a year but occur most often in this area in April, May and June.

Two tornadoes hit in Oklahoma Sunday and a rope tornado was photographed in Sumner County the same day. High wind damage in northwestern Cowley County that also occurred Sunday is still being tabulated. About half the homes in Udall sustained some type of damage from straight winds.
