Red Cross to host a chili lunch on March 31

A Chili Fund-raiser is being planned for the benefit of the Cowley County branch of the American Red Cross on Monday, March 31 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Building, 115 W. 10th in Winfield.

The local Red Cross staff and board of directors will be serving chili with toppings, dessert and a drink for a suggested donation of $5.

Volunteers will include Ruth Westfall, blood drive coordinator; board members Jeremy Biddle, Lynn Dauber, Randy Emerson, Mary Green, Kathy Lange, Darryl Littrell, Maureen Miles, Rodney Perry, Wilma Roady, Kelly Snouffer, Natalee Story and Dr. Bruce Wells. Cathy Robinson, office manager, will also be on hand.

March is Red Cross Month. The Cowley County Red Cross Disaster Team is trained and ready to assist when called. Many residential fire victims from Arkansas City, Winfield and surrounding areas have been helped. The local branch, located at 214 W. Ninth St., Winfield, also funds those Cowley County residents who seek utility assistance.

Health and safety classes are conducted throughout the county. The local Red Cross chapter also organizes blood drives with the help of countless community volunteers.

The necessary funding for local humanitarian efforts and the maintenance of a physical and administrative presence in this area comes from the generosity of Cowley County citizens.
