Winfield to launch new 4-year-old preschool

A new preschool program at the Webster Early Learning Center will give area parents a new option for sending their four-year olds to preschool. The school district announced the new program Thursday.

Starting next year, any parents in the Winfield school district who want their four-year old to go to pre-school will be able to enroll them in the half-day program. Children must be four on or before August 31, 2008 to qualify.

A four-year old roundup is scheduled for April 21 at Webster Early Learning Center, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The preschool will be a combination and expansion of the current PALS and T-K classes. In the past, children have had to meet various qualifications to take part in these classes, but the new preschool will be open to all children who live in Winfield and meet the age requirement.

PALS will continue to serve three-year-old children, who will have to be qualified for the program as they have in the past through a screening process.

The roundup is a chance for parents to see the Webster facility, meet the preschool teachers, and hear about the program for next year. Enrollment forms will also be available that evening.

In addition, the private preschools ? Trinity Lutheran, Holy Name, Southwestern Little Builders, and Sunshine ? will be on hand to provide information about their programs that parents may also be interested in. Head Start representatives also will be on hand to provide information.

More information about the preschool program and the four-year old roundup is available by calling Webster principal Ken Douglass at 221-5170, special services assistant director Cassandra Davis at 221-7021, or curriculum director KayLynn Smith at 221-5100.
