Ark City police to run saturation patrol Fri.

The Arkansas City Police Department will be conducting a DUI saturation patrol Friday in an effort to decrease the number of impaired drivers on the streets.

Officers on the task force patrol will look for people driving too slowly, crossing center lines and running red lights, in addition to several other driving cues they have been trained to detect when looking for impaired drivers.

If the officer stops a person suspected for driving under the influence of alcohol, they may take further action by administering sobriety tests to determine if the driver is capable of safely driving the vehicle, according ACPD Lt. Mark McCaslin.

The purpose of the program is to saturate a pre-designated area with a roving patrol whose sole purpose is to detect, stop and arrest impaired drivers. Officers involved in the patrol will also place an emphasis on speeding, safety belt and alcohol related violations.”
