Smith files for 2nd term as county attorney

County Attorney Chris Smith filed Friday afternoon for re-election. Smith is completing his first four-year term and is seeking a second four-year term.

The Winfield Democrat said several weeks ago that he had not decided whether to run for the office again since he could make more money in private practice.

He is also working with the Kansas Attorney General’ s Office on a capital murder case that has taken much of his time. The case involves a an Ark City man accused of stalking and then kidnapping, raping and murdering a popular college student from Ark City.

Smith has three full-time deputies and offices in both Winfield and Arkansas City.
