Bystanders help woman out of water at dam

Winfield Police want to know to how a 51-year-old woman ended up in the Walnut River near Tunnel Mill Dam in Winfield Friday night. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Police went to the dam around 6:10 p.m. Friday after receiving a report that a woman had been pulled from the water by fishermen nearby. The woman was out of the water when an officer arrived.

"Right now we’re trying to find out whether she fell in or was pushed in or if it was something else entirely," Asst. Chief of Police Brett Stone said.

Stone did not know the condition of the woman ? who he did not identify by name ? but said a report from the investigating officer did not indicate life-threatening injuries.
