Winfield Police use Taser to control woman

A Belle Plaine woman was Tasered twice Monday evening after kicking two different Winfield police officers who responded to a report of a fight at PC’s Saloon on Main Street in Winfield.

Jail staff called for help after 33-year-old Gwen Miller was booked into the county jail and began breaking windows out in the jail holding room. She was moved to another holding room, according to Winfield Police Chief Jerry DeVore.

The ordeal began about 7:30 p.m. when someone called from the saloon to report a fight in progress. The officers arrived and met Gwen Miller, who became combative and kicked Sgt. Chris Roark. A taser was used to subdue Miller. She was transported to the county jail.

Miller became combative again at the jail and kicked Officer Cory Nation. A taser was used a second time to subdue the woman, DeVore said.

She was booked into the jail for battery of a law enforcement officer, felony obstruction of the legal process, battery, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property. Her bond is $11,000, according to the Cowley County Sheriff’s Office.

Allen Kelley Sr. was the victim of battery at the saloon. Allen Kelley Jr. was the victim of battery and misdemeanor criminal damage to property. Damage to the jail holding room was estimated at $4,000.
