Man injured after being clipped by train Tues.

A man was struck by a train in Winfield early Tuesday as he walked by tracks in the southwest portion of town, local police officials said.

Carl W. Smith was taken to a local hospital where he was to be treated for a cut to the back of the head and another near his eye, according to an officer at the scene. An investigation is continuing to determine why the man was near the track and did not avoid the train.

The train was traveling at approximately 14 miles an hour near the 400 block of W. 16th when the accident occurred.

A nearby intersection was closed for a time because the train was blocking the roadway.
