Teen doesn’t yield, hits a funeral procession

Only one person sustained possible injuries when a pickup failed to yield to a funeral procession and struck a semi and then another truck on U.S. 160 east of Winfield late Thursday morning.

Jana Nation, 47, Winfield, went to William Newton Hospital for evaluation. She was a passenger in a 2006 Toyota truck being driven by Roger Werner, 59, also of Winfield.

The accident occurred when Justin Martin, 15, Atlanta, came up behind the semi tractor-trailer being driven by James Dargel, 55, Geuda Springs. Both Martin and Dargel were headed west. Dargel yielded to the funeral procession.?

Martin came up behind Dargel and did not yield, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Martin’s 1989 Chevrolet Pickup slid sideways and struck the semi on the passenger side, then went into the eastbound lane of traffic and struck the truck Werner was driving, KHP reported.
