Police say McKay died of self-inflicted wound

A Winfield man missing since Saturday morning apparently died of a self-inflicted gun shot wound, Winfield Police Chief Jerry DeVore said.

Timothy McKay’s pickup was discovered at approximately 12 a.m. on 322nd Road in the Kaw Wildlife area next to the Arkansas River by Cowley County Deputy Sheriff Tristan Chalmers.

A tracking team comprised of members of the Kansas Highway Patrol, Arkansas City Fire and Burden Fire departments were called to the scene and searched throughout the night.

The trackers located McKay’s body about 6 a.m. He was wastewater utility systems foreman for the city of Winfield.
