UPDATE: Man injured in wreck is improving

UPDATE: 4:45 p.m. Sunday – Two Caldwell residents have been identified as the people most seriously injured in the accident at U.S. 77 near Cowley Cinema 8 Sunday morning.

Gaylen J. Reedy, 53, was taken to Via Christi-St. Francis in critical condition. He was in a 1992 Geo Prizm that was T-boned by another vehicle.

He was listed in serious condition Monday morning, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Valorie Reedy, 53, was listed as a passenger in the Prizm. She was transported to William Newton Hospital in Winfield in serious condition. Both the Reedys were wearing seatbelts.

Valorie Reedy was eventually transported to Wichita and is in fair condition this morning.

Investigators said Eduardo Sandoval, 62, Winfield, was driving eastbound on 222nd Road in a 1998 Toyota Avalon when he failed to yield to northbound traffic on 77. Sandoval was taken to the hospital in Winfield for treatment of possible injuries.

Amy J. Sandoval, 32, was a passenger in the Avalon and was also taken to the hospital for possible injuries.

Both Sandovals were wearing seatbelts. The accident occurred around 10:40 a.m.

One person was critically injured when the small car the person was driving was T-boned by another car on U.S. 77 near the movie theater about 11 a.m. Sunday. Eagle Med was dispatched from Wichita to transfer the patient to a Wichita hospital.

Emergency crews at the scene used the Jaws of Life to help free at least one victim from the wreckage.

A passenger in the same car was also seriously injured and transported by ambulance to William Newton Hospital in Winfield, according to reports from the scene. It was not clear whether passengers in the other vehicle were injured.

Both Winfield and Arkansas City, Sheriff and Kansas Highway Patrol Officers responded to the accident.
