Bank robbery suspect in jail; no charges yet

A suspect in the robbery of a Home National Bank branch in Arkansas City last Thursday remains in custody for parole violation but has not been charged with the robbery.

Ark City authorities are waiting for the U.S. Attorney’s Office to decide whether to prosecute the man whose name has not been released. He could be charged in Cowley County District Court.

"He’s not officially connected with this crime yet," Ark City Police Lt. Jeff Moore said Wednesday morning.

The suspect is not from the Ark City area. He has been on parole for bank robbery and was picked up by the FBI in Wichita Friday.

The robber walked into the bank, produced a note to a teller demanding money and displayed an unknown caliber blue steel revolver that was tucked into his belt. He was given an undisclosed amount of cash, then left on foot. He may have left in a red Ford Mustang.
