Cowley man pleads to larceny and ID charges

An Arkansas City man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for two felony counts of larceny of two automobiles and falsely impersonating another person.

Michael Lester Belair, 30, pleaded guilty in Kay County District Court in Newkirk. He has to serve four of the 10 year sentence and the balance will be suspended, according to court records. Belair was also given a two year sentence for bail jumping.

The two cars were parked in a driveway at a Ponca City residence when they disappeared. A neighbor had noticed a pickup with a flatbed tilt trailer picking up one of the cars but knew it was for sale so didn’t think much about it.

The two cars were picked up by a man who works at a salvage yard where cards are purchased for scrap. A man who identified himself as Jason Carter stopped at the salvage yard sold the cars for $100 each.

The cars were reported stolen by the owner and were located in the salvage yard by investigators. Carter is actually in prison and Belair used his name.
