Deputy Weiser leaves county attorney office

Philip Weiser, a deputy Cowley County attorney for nearly four years, resigned effective Nov. 30, court officials said Friday. The process to replace him has begun but no official announcement has been made.

Weiser was hired by County Attorney Chris Smith in January 2005 and for the last half of his tenure he had worked mostly in the Arkansas City office, Smith said. Weiser maintained a private practice in Wichita and commuted to Cowley County to serve as deputy.

"He was a valuable employee," Smith said.

Weiser will continue working in private practice in Wichita.

Smith indicated he already had someone in mind to fill the position but would not identify the person by name.

There are three deputy county attorney positions. Jim Spring and Linda Loomis hold the other posts and work mostly in Winfield.
