UPDATE: Police arrest bank robbery suspect

UPDATE: 5:36 p.m., July 4 – Authorities have confirmed that an arrest has been made in the CornerBank armed robbery case.

Tips, and physical evidence from the scene, helped lead to a suspect around 1 a.m. Saturday morning, according to a written statement. The man’s name will not be released until formal charges are filed.

Federal charges could come as early as Wednesday. The case is expected to be turned over Monday for review by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

UPDATE: 10:08 p.m. – Winfield Police released some new information Friday evening in regard to the CornerBank robbery earlier in the day.

According to the latest written statement, the suspect approached a teller and demanded money, No one was hurt during the incident.

CornerBank’s south branch does have video surveillance and with that and information from witnesses, a description of the man was developed. Police indicated that a black mask the man wore had a white-colored design on one side.

Officers were able to learn from eyewitnesses that the suspect fled on foot west bound on W. 15th Avenue and then fled south bound on Menor Street.?

The investigation is being assisted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Cowley County Trackers and the Cowley County Sheriff’s Department.??

Corner Bank will be closed on Saturday due to the 4th of July Holiday but will reopen for normal business hours on Monday July 6th.

UPDATE: 2:14 p.m. – Winfield police have cordoned off an area at the intersection of 15th and Main where a bank robbery is being investigated.

The robbery occurred at a Cornerbank Drive-thru location. An officer at the scene confirmed police were looking for at least one suspect.

Police said A man left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. The incident occurred around 1 p.m., according to a written statement regarding the incident.

He is described as an Asian male approximately 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing 110 to 150 pounds. The man entered the bank with a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money.

The subject was wearing a dark colored t-shirt, black mask and light-colored pants.

An employee at the bank declined to offer comment.
