All clear is given at Wellington hospital Wed

UPDATE: 5:37 p.m. – Authorities have given the all clear at the hospital in Wellington and patients and staff are beginning to return to the building, according to news reports.

A person of interest is in custody but police said no actual device was found. Patients had been evacuated in the afternoon and relocated to other facilities.

Police and sheriff’s officers are investigating a bomb threat at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Wellington Wednesday morning, police said.

A threat was called in sometime around 9 a.m., according to information from the scene. Authorities have requested assistance from explosives professionals at McConnell Air Force Base in Wichita.

The hospital was on lockdown throughout the morning and police and sheriff’s patrol cars could be seen blocking entrances to the hopsital’s parking area.
