Three people arrested, mobile meth lab found

Three people were arrested Wednesday in connection with an investigation in that led to the discovery of a meth lab inside a vehicle.

The incident began around noon in the parking lot of Native Lights Casino when Kay County authorities made contact with three individuals. One person was arrested but two others fled in a vehicle and headed north on U.S. 77 after sheriff’s deputies asked them to stop.

Kay County officials contacted Cowley County authorities when a pursuit crossed the border into Kansas. Cowley County Sheriff’s deputies helped get the vehicle stopped about a mile north of the state line.

An initial search of the truck ? which had a topper on it ? turned up a propane tank containing anhydrous ammonia.

Authorities contacted the Kansas Bureau Investigation because of the potential risk involved with mobile methamphetamine labs, sheriff’s Sgt. Bruce Hafenstein said.

The KBI arrived and executed a search warrant of the vehicle and discovered what appeared to be remnants of a meth lab inside the truck. It took about two hours for the truck to be processed for evidence and cleaned up.

Charges in the investigation are pending. Check back with NewsCow for more information as it is available.
