Infant Winfield child hospitalized after accident

An infant child was rushed to a Wichita hospital Monday afternoon after being injured in an accident at a home in Winfield, police said.

The child was said to have rolled off a bed at a residence in the 2800 block of E. 12th. Emergency crews were called to the report of a child not breathing and unconscious around 2 p.m.

EMS personnel were able to revive the child, who was later taken by air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, according to Winfield Police Lt. Frank Owens. The child was taken to Wichita because there was an unknown amount of time the child was unconscious.

The infant’s name and current condition have not been made public.

Owens said the incident will be fully investigated by police because of the child’s age. However, the child’s parents have cooperated fully with police and given investigators no reason to believe the injuries were caused by anything other than an accident, he said.
