Ruth Renner

Ruth Renner, 97, of Winfield, Kan., passed away Wednesday morning, May 5, 2010, at her home.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Moline Cemetery in Moline. Miles Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established in Mrs. Renner’s name for the Moline United Methodist Church and the Cowley County Humane Society. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Born May 24, 1912, in Norwich, she was the daughter of H.M. and Laura (Piper) Hoop. She was raised and received her education in Udall, graduating from Udall High School in 1929.

Ruth was united in marriage to Elvis "Slim" Renner on March 6, 1930, in Winfield. The couple made their first home in the Udall area. In 1948, the family moved to Oxford where they farmed for five years. They bought their own farm and moved to the Moline area in 1953. Ruth was a devoted homemaker and helped Slim on the family farm. Slim preceded her in death on June 10, 1974. In 1995 she moved to Winfield to be near family.

Ruth was a member of the Moline United Methodist Church. She was a 4-H leader for many years and also a member of a Home Demonstration club.

She is survived by her daughter, Sheryl Hunt and husband, Gary, of Winfield.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, June Kennedy.
