Irene Williams

Irene Maxine (June) Williams,95, of Udall, Kan., went to be with her Lord, Saturday evening, July 24, 2010, at her home, the farm she was born on.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Heritage Church (formerly Congregational Church) in Udall. Interment will follow at the Udall Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

A memorial has been established in Irene’s name for the Congregational Church. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Born on May 27, 1915, in rural Udall, she was the daughter of Frank and Etta (Shaffer) June. She was raised and received her education in the Udall country school and graduated from Udall High School in 1934. Irene was the last of all the Shaffer cousins, children of Fred and Sarah Shaffer.

Irene eloped to Kingman, Kan., with James Williams on January 12, 1937, and the couple had been married 73 ? years. They farmed land around Udall and made their home on her family’s farm. Irene was a dedicated homemaker, raising two children and babysitting her grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking meals for farm helpers.

She was a member of the Congregational Church (now Heritage Church) in Udall. Her hobbies included sewing, quilting, cooking and her beautiful flowers. She and her husband spent the winters in Aransas Pass, Tx., for over 20 years. They also enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Vancouver Island, Canada, and Niagara Falls. Most memorable was their Love Boat cruise from California to Acapulco, Mexico, through the Panama Canal, stopping at five different islands, and up to Florida before flying home.

She is survived by her husband, James, of the home; her son, Donald Williams and wife, Phyllis, Abingdon, Va.; her daughter, Darlene Nelson and husband, Ronald, Udall; her grandchildren, Donald Williams, Jr. and wife, Holly, Carl (Sonny) Cooper and wife, Stephanie, Denny Willis and Etta Long;
her great-grandchildren, twins Aaron Cooper and wife, Jessica, and Allen Cooper and wife, Alice, Anthony Patterson and Hailey Long; her great-great-grandchildren, Anabel Owens, and Avaery, Payton and Sophia Cooper; her step-grandchildren, John Bland, Joy Knowles and husband, Kent, Tracey Bolte and wife, Amy, Billy Joe Melton and wife, Kimberly, Belinda West and husband, Erik, and Heath Satterlee; her step great-grandchildren, Katelyn Herrod, Jackson & Zackery Bolte; and her step-great-great-grandchildren, Kevin West, Tommy West, Mariah West and MaKayla West.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Faye Curtis and Ida Ferguson; her granddaughter, Andreia Lanae Williams; and her great-granddaughter, Kayla Marie Patterson.
