Locals to get super soaked for charity at fair

The Cowley County United Way is sponsoring a Super Soaker Event Friday at the Cowley County Fair, near the midway stage at the Winfield Fairgrounds.

From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm, county leaders and friends of agencies supported by the Cowley County United Way will have their head in the board to be drenched with super soaker water guns.

For $5, a whole soaker load of water may be unloaded on your friends and neighbors, and even some folks well known in the community.

For $3, a child 12 and under gets a fully loaded soaker. For the really brave, $10 will give you a two and a half gallon bucket to dump on your favorite victim.

There is a contest amongst the agencies to see who can raise the most money during their time to be soaked. The agency gathering the most money will be awarded a $100 gift certificate, the second most will get a $50 certificate, and the third a $25 certificate.

The funds raised go to support agencies assisted by Cowley County United Way.

The word is out Sheriff Don Read will be under the gun on behalf of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Cowley County. Former city manager of Arkansas City, Curt Freeland will be a target on behalf of Arkansas City Habitat for Humanity, and Dr. Bruce Wells will take his turn on behalf of REACH-TinyK.
