Justin Tong, a Winfield man injured Saturday in an accidental shooting in the Ark City Wal-Mart parking lot ? is steadily improving and expected to make a full recovery.
Tong was listed in fair condition early Wednesday at Wesley Medical Center, according to a hospital spokesperson. He was critically injured in the shooting and required surgery.
Tong was sitting in the driver’s seat of a champagne colored four-door Buick when he was struck in the abdomen by a bullet discharged from a 45-caliber handgun, his family said. Sean Rethmeier, a Winfield man who suffered a gunshot wound to the hand, was holding the gun when it accidentally went off.
Police impounded the vehicle in which the incident occurred and have possession of the firearm.
No charges have been filed in the case, but an investigation into the matter is continuing.
