Public helps to find suspect in AC bar burglary

An Ark City man was arrested Tuesday in connection with a burglary at a local bar, police said. A tip from the public helped crack the case.

On Oct. 6, officers went to Tropics Bar, 1121 S. Summit, to investigate a burglary. Someone had entered the business and took several bottles of alcohol. Officers also noted damage done to the rear door of the Alumni Bar and Grill, 1107 S. Summit.

Evidence was collected and held for further investigation, according to a report on the case.

This week, officers, acting on information from alert citizens, identified a suspect, police said.

Justin A. Day, 25, Ark City, was located and interviewed about the crimes and police said he confessed to the incident at the Tropics and was aware of the damage at the Alumni Bar.

The bottles of booze were recovered from his home in the 900 block of N. First St.

He faces charges for burglary, theft, and criminal damage to property. He is currently being held on $6,000 bond.
