UPDATE: 12:30 p.m. Monday – Montia A. Robbins, 28, of rural Derby, has been identified as the man killed in an accident on K-15 east of Udall late Friday.

Robbins and three passengers were on their way to a casino near Newkirk when the accident happened. Tiffany A. Damron, 20, Andover, was hospitalized in Wichita but her injuries were not considered life threatening.

John Patrick, 21, and Breanna L. Haden, 19, both of Andover, were also in the vehicle but not hurt. All but Robbins were believed to be wearing a seat belt.

Robbins was driving an Isuzu Rodeo that struck a slick spot on the Walnut River Bridge. The vehicle hit both guard rails, exited the east end of the bridge and entered the south ditch, where it rolled at least twice.

Slick, icy driving conditions are believed to be to blame for an accident that left one person dead and another injured on a Friday night that kept authorities busy with a number of weather-related crashes.

A person was killed when their vehicle left the roadway near the Walnut River Bridge east of Udall around 10:30 p.m. Four people were in the white Isuzu Rodeo when it rolled into the south ditch on K-15 highway, according to Cowley County undersheriff Bill Mueller.

Another person was taken to a hospital in Wichita. Their condition is unknown.

The person killed was from Sedgwick County, Mueller said.

Initial reports indicated a person was ejected from and trapped under the vehicle. The crash came at a time when authorities had advised that area bridges were slick due to falling rain and below-freezing temperatures.

Mueller said weather was to blame for a number of other crashes within the county, though no other major injuries were reported.

Friday’s fatality was the third traffic death in Cowley County in a week.
