A Cowley County man was killed Friday morning in a home-construction accident northwest of Winfield.
Leonard Richardson, 82, died around 9:30 a.m. this morning as he worked to pour concrete flooring at his residence on 55th Road. Richardson was directing a concrete truck driver when the truck struck part of a limb on a tree.
The limb broke loose and struck Richardson in the head, according to Cowley County undersheriff Bill Mueller. He was killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene by the county coroner.
"It was just a very freak, but tragic accident," Mueller said. "He’ll be missed greatly around here, he did a lot to help out a lot of people."
