UPDATE: Spotters see funnel cloud by Dexter

UPDATE: 4:30 p.m. – A tornado warning in is in effect until 5 p.m. for parts of eastern Cowley County.

Trained weather spotters observed a funnel cloud four miles south of Dexter around 4:25 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

A tornado watch is in effect until 9 p.m. for all of Cowley County and other parts of south central Kansas.


A potent storm front is expected to roll into south central Kansas Thursday afternoon, weather and emergency management officials said.

The chance for severe weather is highest east of line from Wichita to Wellington. So far, forecasters expect thunderstorms to hit some time in the late afternoon to early evening. High winds and hail could be associated with the storms.

The chance of precipitation is 50 percent beginning at around 3 to 4 p.m.
