Two hurt in accident near Strother Thursday

Two people have been injured in a collision near Strother Field late Thursday morning.

The two-vehicle accident occurred near railroad tracks that intersect U.S. 77 highway a few miles south of Winfield. Authorities are at the scene at this time.

A van owned by Lincare – a provider of health-care related services – was northbound on 77 when it stopped at the tracks. A Chevy truck approached from behind and struck the van, according to Cowley County undersheriff Bill Mueller.

The driver of the van suffered moderate injuries and was transported to a hospital in Winfield. The truck’s driver suffered more serious injuries and was taken to an Ark City hospital.

Neither man’s injuries were considered life threatening, Mueller said.

The accident occurred around 11:45 a.m.
