Cops: Man, 26, pulled gun in local store’s lot

An altercation in the parking lot of the Winfield Walmart Tuesday evening has led to the arrest of a local man who faces weapons and drug charges, law enforcement officials said.

Aaron Bogle, 26, was arrested around 7 p.m. after Cowley County Sheriff’s officers caught up with him in the 2300 block of 85th Rd. He is being held on $20,000 bond.

About a half hour before his arrest, officers responded to a report that Bogle had pulled a gun on three people in the parking lot of the store at 2200 Pike Rd. Local police said Bogle didn’t know the people but had apparently gotten into an verbal altercation with one of them that escalated to the point that the suspect brandished a firearm, according to Winfield Lt. Det. Frank Owens.

Bogle had left the scene by the time police arrived but law enforcement agencies were asked to be on the lookout for a man and vehicle based on description.

When sheriff’s deputies stopped him, Bogle gave consent to a search that turned up a switchblade, two pairs of brass knuckles, some weed and prescription drugs.

No gun was found in the vehicle, Sheriff Don Read said, but investigators did find a shoulder holster and ammunition for a nine-millimeter handgun. It’s possible the gun had been ditched at some point between Bogle leaving Walmart and his arrest, Read said.

Bogle is facing aggravated assault charges in addition to weapons and drug counts.

Victims in the case were Maria Mazurier, James Warner-Smith and an unnamed juvenile, according to a police report.
