In Wellington, cops investigate pair of deaths

Authorities in Wellington continue to investigate the death of a man whose body was discovered in a home there hours before a woman, who was a person of interest in the case, was found dead in an Oklahoma cemetery.

The body of Tawneca Dawn Cobb-Gonzales, 32, was discovered in Renfrow, Okla. near a 2001 Toyota Tundra for which authorities had been searching.

So far police have declined to name the man whose body was found at 1319 Poplar in Wellington, a home property records show was owned by Cobb-Gonzales. The man was described as being in his late 20s or early 30s.

An autopsy for the man has been scheduled at the forensic science center in Wichita.

Wellington police chief Tracy Heath would only describe the deaths as suspicious and would not say what might have transpired to spark the incident.

Officers, first responded to the home on Poplar around 11:45 a.m. after a resident of the area reportedly received a suspicious note.

Police arrived at the home and found a man dead with a wound to the forehead.

Authorities quickly identified Cobb-Gonzales as a person of interest in the case and began a search for her. A review of her cell phone records caused police to notify officials in Grant County, Okla.

A short time later the woman’s body was found.
