Fireworks likely cause of fire at empty house

Fireworks are thought to be responsible for a fire that leveled a vacant home northeast of Winfield Monday afternoon.

Just after 2 p.m., fire crews were sent to a home in 12000 block of 142nd Rd. Firefighters arrived to find a home that had been burning for some time and was starting to come down.

No one was living in the home and there was no power going to it.

Neighbors reported hearing the sounds of fireworks and some fireworks were found in the area of the home.

No one was injured and no one was inside the home.

Investigators are still looking into an official cause of the blaze.
