UPDATE: Deceased bicyclist from Cowley

UPDATE: 12 a.m. Monday – Larry Godfrey, of rural Cowley County, has been identified as the bicyclist who died Saturday.

The man’s name has not been publicly released by authorities, but friends of Godfrey confirmed his identity.

Hot weather is thought to have played a role in the death of a man found lying in the road near Oxford on Saturday, Sumner County authorities said.

The man, who had been riding his bicycle, was found by a deputy near 90th St. and Oxford Rd., just west of the Cowley County line. He appeared to have suffered a heat stroke.

Authorities have yet to identify the man by name, but said he was 47.

The deputy performed CPR on the man and a passerby in a vehicle attempted to assist in the situation. However, the victim could not be revived.

The man was taken to a hospital in Wellington, where he was pronounced dead.
