Excessive heat has led organizers of the annual National Night Out celebration in Winfield to change the date of the event to the fall.
Ordinarily, National Night Out occurs in early August but a number of 100-degree days so far has caused the Winfield Police Dept. to rethink that. An alternate date of Oct. 4 has now been chosen for the event.
Each year, National Night Out gives neighborhoods and opportunity to host block parties that are visited by police and emergency responders in a non-emergency environment.
