City plans test of weather sirens next Tuesday

Barring the threat of severe weather, outdoor storm warning sirens in the city of Winfield will be tested at noon this coming Tuesday, city officials said.

Residents in the area of Olive and Indiana may experience a greater-than-usual siren volume level because a new unit was recently installed at 1020 Olive. The city recently received a state grant to fund the purchase of the new unit and identified the Olive/Indiana area as an optimal spot for it.

The grant also provided for Cowley County’s Public Safety Consultant to review the city’s outdoor warning system and make the recommendation for placement.

The city’s outdoor system is meant to provide timely notification of an impending threat or danger during severe weather.
