John Barnett

John W. Barnett, 80, of Udall, Kan., passed away Sunday morning, August 7, 2011, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Udall. Interment will follow at Udall Cemetery. Friends may call at Miles Funeral Service from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

A memorial has been established in John’s name for the First Baptist Church in Udall. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Born on November 27, 1930, in rural Cowley County, he was the son of Ted and Marie (Donley) Barnett. He was raised and received his education in the Ashton area and moved to Udall in 1947. He graduated from Udall High School in 1948.

He was united in marriage to Vida E. Durham on August 21, 1950, in Newkirk, Okla. The couple made their home in rural Udall where they farmed. In addition to making farming his lifetime career, he owned and operated Barnett’s Used Cars for 20 years. Vida preceded him in death on June 3, 2004.

John was united in marriage on July 9, 2005, to Gladys Engleman in Udall.

John was a member of the First Baptist Church in Udall where he had served as deacon and taught Sunday school for several years. He had also served on the Udall Coop Board for several years.

His family includes his wife, Gladys, of the home; his sons, Kirk Barnett and wife, Luanne, and Mark Barnett and wife, Cinda, all of Udall; his grandchildren, Brad Barnett, Ginger Hopper, Amber Barnett and Vanessa Barnett; and his great-grandchildren, Halee, Tanner, Austin, Payton, Brayden, Deshawne, Jayden, Cayden, Devon and Darian. In addition to his parents and first wife, Vida, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nelda Teter.
