Leaking gasoline leads to evac in Cedar Vale

Nearly a third of Cedar Vale was evacuated Monday after the state confirmed reports of a gasoline leak.

The Kansas Dept. of Health and Environment began testing at a local gas station Monday morning after a resident reported smelling gas coming from a sewer line in the area, according to our news partners at KAKE. The testing led to an evacuation of about 150 residents.

State and city officials are working on a method for cleaning up the fuel, though it is not clear at this point how long that might take.

Cedar Vale High School is open to evacuees. Areas evacuated are west of Kingman Rd. to Pine St. and Salebarn Rd. to Marsh St.
