1 arrested, 1 hurt after accident Sunday morn.

A Winfield man was injured, and a second man was arrested, following a single-vehicle accident in rural Cowley County early Sunday morning, undersheriff Bill Mueller said.

Jedediah Caleb Kramer, 29, Winfield, is accused of misleading authorities about the location and circumstances surrounding the accident. Kramer and Jared Kyle Lawler, 19, showed up at a hospital in Ark City around 4 a.m.

Hospital personnel called authorities after noting that Lawler had sustained head injuries that required medical treatment, Mueller said. Lawler was eventually transferred to Wesley Medical Center where he was treated and released a few hours later.

Kramer initially told investigators the accident had occurred on private property west of Cedar Vale. There were, though, several inconsistencies in Kramer’s story and deputies, after about two hours, found the accident scene near the intersection of 212th Rd. and 11th Rd. in Cowley County.

The two men had been riding in a 1997 Nissan pickup when Kramer missed a curve, left the roadway and crashed into a pole. It’s unclear what role alcohol might have played in the incident.

Lawler is said to have put his head through the windshield during the collision.

Friends from Winfield were called to pick up the men and take them to the hospital.

Kramer could face charges that include obstruction of the legal process, failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident. He posted $1,600 bond and was released from jail.
