Safe Homes gets $38,500 in state grant funds

Safe Homes Inc. of Winfield has received a $38,500 grant to fund the hiring of a bi-lingual outreach advocate, Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt announced this week.

The outreach advocate will seek out and help victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The funds will also be used for travel, supplies, communication, utilities and maintenance costs associated with providing advocacy and shelter services.

“We are thankful for the many organizations throughout Kansas that provide essential services to crime victims in their time of need,” Schmidt said. “These funds will help enable these key partners to continue serving victims in their communities.”

Funds for this project were awarded from the State Crime Victims Assistance Fund along with a special allocation from the state general fund authorized by the Kansas Legislature earlier this year.

The Attorney General’s Office Victims Services Grants Program this year awarded nearly $3 million in grants to local and state crime victim assistance organizations.
