Suspect arrested in stolen truck investigation

A man was arrested Thursday in connection with the theft of a vehicle taken from McCoy Electric in Winfield earlier this month, police said.

Cody J. Anderson, 21, Winfield, was arrested and faces charges for theft of a motor vehicle and drug-related crimes. He remained in the Cowley County Jail Monday and his bond is set at $14,000.

Anderson is accused of stealing a 2001 Chevy Silverado from McCoy Electric, 414 Main, on Sept. 12. The truck was reported stolen and a motorist pursued a suspect who got out of the truck north of Winfield and fled in another vehicle.

The suspect got away, but the truck was recovered.

Due to Information received from witnesses and tips received at the police department, an investigation into a residence at 413 Millington St. began.

While officers were investigating the residence, information regarding illegal drug use was located, according to a prepared statement from police.

As a result members of the Winfield Police Department and Cowley County Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at the residence. During the search, items believed to be marijuana and drug sale paraphernalia were located.

Anderson was arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, possession of drug sale paraphernalia, possession of drug use paraphernalia, no drug tax stamp, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Josephine Huffman, 29, was arrested for possession of drug use paraphernalia.
