Cause of Sept. 5 fire on Millington not known

Fire officials have yet to determine the cause of an intense fire that heavily damaged one home and threatened other buildings in north Winfield earlier this month.

The cause of a fire at 419 Millington Sept. 5 remains undetermined pending testing and additional investigation, Winfield fire marshal and interim chief Alan Stoll said this week. He did say the fire is believed to have started in the carport area of the home but was not attributable to two vehicles parked there.

The fire did eventually consume both vehicles and damaged the north side of the home. Other nearby structures suffered heat damage.

Cost of damage to the home was estimated at $40,000.

Three men, all in their 20s, were able to escape the burning home without being injured.

Fire investigators also have yet to determine whether the fire was accidentally or intentionally set.
