Three finalists picked in county admin. search

Three men have been selected as finalists for the position of Cowley County administrator. They are to be interviewed later this week.

County commissioners, and interim administrator Phil Jarvis, will talk with each of the candidates at a meeting of the commission set for 11 a.m. Friday at the county courthouse in Winfield. Jarvis said he expects much of the meeting to be conducted behind closed doors.

He would not identify any of the candidates by name because all are employed elsewhere. Each has acquired their experience outside the state, he said, though one has been employed in Kansas previously.

The county is looking to fill a position left vacant by the departure of Leroy Alsup this summer.

Jarvis said that while these three candidates are considered finalists – and were the consensus picks of the commission and Jarvis when the field was narrowed – its not clear when a decision on hiring will be made.

“I can’t tell you we’re going to make a final decision Friday,” he said. “If none of the candidates seem to be the right fit, we reserve the right to keep looking. This will be our initial interview with these candidates.”

Each candidate is expected to meet with commissioners for about an hour-and-a-half.
