Southwestern homecoming parade Saturday

Southwestern College will have its annual homecoming march on Main in Winfield on Saturday morning.

The parade is set to begin at 9:30 a.m. and will feature a number of former college presidents. Southwestern is wrapping up the celebration of its 125th year.

Children of former Southwestern College president Orville Strohl (1954-1972) and their spouses are expected to attend. Also participating will be former presidents Donald Ruthenberg (1972-1980), Bruce Blake (1984-1988), and Carl Martin (1988-1998) and their spouses.

Current president Dick Merriman will also be in the parade.

Numerous groups and organizations will walk in the parade. Some of them include: Southwestern College Homecoming royalty, Moundbuilder athletic teams, student organizations from Southwestern College, the Winfield police, American Legion, VFW Post 3544, American Riders, and Parade Marshals Ken and Madeline Norland.

The parade route will begin at 15th Avenue and move north on Main Street until it reaches its conclusion by turning east on 10th street.

Following the parade, there will be a dedication of the new SC wind turbine at 10:30 a.m. on the grass soccer field; rock painting at the Mound at 10:30 a.m.; and the Homecoming picnic in Stewart Field House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The SC football game vs.Ottawa kicks off at 1:30 p.m. in Richard L. Jantz Stadium.
