Domestic violence review board plans a visit

Representatives of the Governor’s Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board will be in Cowley County this week for a presentation that coincides with the observance of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The presentation is set for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in the Wright Room on the campus of Cowley College in Ark City. The event is free and open to the public.

Presenters Matthew Ade and Debi Holcomb will examine a closed case in order to "Review the Past to Change the Future." The workshop will provide an overview of the Governor’s Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board and walk participants through a fatality and the lessons learned from the review of the fatality.

The 14-member Governor’s Domestic Violence Fatality Review Board was established in 2004 by executive order. The Board is charged with reviewing all adult domestic violence-related fatalities in Kansas, describing trends and patterns regarding the facts and circumstances of these fatalities, recommending improvements to prevent future fatalities and determining if adequate resources and trainings are in place for those who respond to domestic violence crimes.
