College students seek help with clothing drive

Education students at Cowley College need help collecting gently-used clothing that will be distributed to Ark city families as part of a clothing drive and exchange.

College students will sort the clothing and set up a Free Clothing Store where local families can get needed items, no questions asked. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 12.

Last year approximately 5,000 articles of clothing were distributed to local families and the goal is to surpass that with this year’s event.

Anyone who might have gently used clothing, shoes, coats, hats and gloves to contribute can drop those items off, before Nov. 10, at the Social Science Department offices located in the basement of the Brown Center building on the Cowley College campus.

If a school or local organization decides to collect items and would like for Cowley College students to assist in getting the items delivered to the college, a contact from the school or organization can email Julie Rhoads at rhoadsj@cowley.edu.

Students have been collecting for the past five weeks and find that clothing for elementary aged children is still desperately needed. Contributions are coming in a bit slower than in previous years.

While they will take clothing of all sizes, the group is running short of clothing for these kids. In addition, boys clothing is usually in high demand.
