Local United Way presents quarterly checks

Cowley County United Way recently held a celebration of service honoring donors, volunteers and agencies that receive financial support.

Representatives of supported agencies were presented their checks for the October-December 2011 quarter. A brief statement about the service of the agency was shared by Mary Jarvis as the checks were presented by Allen Polen.

John Sturd welcomed the group and spoke words of gratitude for the service given by each group.

The casual finger-food gathering was held in the education room of South Central Kansas Medical Center.

Support is given to 18 agencies, all of whom are focused on service in Cowley County. The agencies are Arkansas City Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boy Scouts, CASA, Community Learning Center, Cowley County Humane Society, Eagle Nest, Inc., Family Life Services, Girl Scouts, Harry Hynes Hospice, REACH Infant/Toddler Services, Red Cross, Safe Homes, Salvation Army, Sunflower Outreach Services (Joseph’s Storehouse), Winfield Food Pantry, Winfield Habitat for Humanity, and Winfield Thrift Store.

Cowley County United Way reports that 99 percent of every donation goes directly to the agencies working right here at home in Cowley County.
