Wellington man, 19, hurt in Tuesday accident

UPDATE: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday – A Wellington man was injured Tuesday when his vehicle left the roadway west of Winfield and rolled multiple times, Cowley County Sheriff Don Read said.

Austin L. Anderson, 19, was ejected from his 1997 Dodge Stratus, which came to rest against a row of trees. Anderson was not wearing a seat belt, authorities said.

The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. about two miles west of the sale barn on U.S. highway 160.

Anderson was taken by air ambulance to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. He was listed in serious condition this morning, according to a hospital spokesperson.

The vehicle was registered to Sheri Anderson of Wellington.


UPDATE: 8:44 p.m. – Cowley County Sheriff’s investigators said a person was injured when their vehicle left the roadway about two miles west of the sale barn on U.S. 160 Tuesday night.

A name for that person has not been released. The victim was believed to be in critical condition. Their current condition is not known, however, the person was able to communicate with emergency crews to some extent.

The person was driving a car westbound on 160 when the car left the roadway and entered the north ditch. Initial information indicated the person over-corrected and spun across the roadway and overturned multiple times.

The vehicle came to rest on its side against a row of trees on the south side of the highway. The driver was ejected from the vehicle.

Authorities are at the scene of a single-vehicle rollover accident west of Winfield on U.S. Highway 160.

At least one person has suffered serious injuries as a result of the accident and is being taken by air ambulance to a Wichita hospital.
