Cowley County Sheriff’s Reports for December 2 – 6, 2011

DECEMBER 2

Franklin Decker, rural Winfield, was arrested on a probation violation charge.

The theft of a furnace from an unoccupied house occurred in the 7000 block of 192nd Rd.

An injured deer was reported along the road in the 26000 block of 85th Rd.

Trucks losing debris from their load was reported near 41st Rd. and 286th Rd.

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and deputies were dispatched to watch for a reported driver with a suspended license traveling eastbound from Ark City toward Dexter.

A miscellaneous dog complaint was taken in the 7000 block of 172nd Rd.

A semi truck with a tire on fire was reported at the US 77/K-15 junction east of Udall. It was found to be an overheated brake and there was no damage to the truck.

A car/deer accident occurred in the 1000 block of North College, Winfield.

Cattle were out in the 24000 block of US 160.

A disabled motorist was checked in the 4000 block of US 77.

Deputies were dispatched to a problem with a foster child in the 17000 block of 291st Rd.

A car/deer accident occurred in the 12000 block of US 160.

A real estate fraud complaint was reported in the 12000 block of 296th Rd.

A prisoner was transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper was assisted by deputies with a traffic stop in the 25000 block of US 77.

An out of control juvenile was reported in the 32000 block of 91st Rd.

An abandoned vehicle was checked in the 1500 block of K-15.

Kansas Highway Patrol troopers and deputies responded to a business alarm in the 19000 block of 81st Rd.

DECEMBER 3

A disabled motorist was assisted by deputies in the 4000 block of 21st Rd.

An abandoned vehicle was checked in the 12000 block of 21st Rd.

A vehicle observed parked at the entrance to Lumbert’s Auto Salvage was checked in the 4400 block of East Ninth.

A prisoner was transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

Deputies assisted with an out of control juvenile in the 17000 block of 102nd Rd.

A door, not normally seen open, was checked on a building in the 17000 block of 251st Rd.

Deputies were contacted at the Sheriff’s office regarding a landlord/tenant issue in the Ark City area.

Dustin Coffey, Ark City, was arrested on a failure to appear warrant.

A car/deer accident occurred in the 18000 block of K-15.

Debris was reported on the highway in the 16000 block of US 77.

A telephone harassment complaint from a county resident was taken at the Ark City Police Department.

Deputies attempted to locate a resident in the IXL area for the Ark City Police Department in connection with the case being investigated by that agency.

DECEMBER 4

George Ehler, Ponca City, was arrested for driving with a revoked license and also on a warrant for probation violation from the Mulvane Municipal Court.

Illegal hunting and a trespassing complaint was taken in the 4000 block of K-15.

The theft of approximately 4900 feet of electrical wiring was reported in the 1400 block of 122nd Rd.

Deputies checked a hitchhiker in the 15000 block of US 166 and found him to be hitchhiking around the United States. He was given a ride to this Chautauqua County line and this Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office was advised.

An out of control juvenile was reported in the 32000 block of 91st Rd.

Christopher Cash, Winfield, was located and arrested for the Winfield Police Department for domestic battery and criminal damage to property in a case being investigated by the Winfield Police Department.

Deputies assisted Winfield Police officers in transporting a Winfield resident to Ark City to deal with a family emergency at that location.

DECEMBER 5

A problem was reported with the railroad crossing on 212th Rd. just east of US 77. A severely raised tie was found causing a serious hazard. The BNSF Railroad was notified and Cowley County Road and Bridge placed barricades to block the problem Lane until the crossing could be repaired.

Deputies were advised that Butler County deputies were in pursuit of a homicide suspect from Augusta, southbound from the Augusta area. They were subsequently informed that the pursuit had injured Cowley County still southbound on US 77. Deputies were able to deploy spike strips at their US 77/K-15 junction, deflating the right side tires of the pursuit vehicle which subsequently stopped. A male and female were taken into custody and transported back to Augusta by Butler County deputies and Augusta DPS officers.

A a burglary occurred at a residence in the 14000 block of 251st Rd. A large screen television appeared to be the only item taken.

An abandoned vehicle was checked in the 3000 block of 302nd Rd.

A car/deer accident occurred in the 9000 block of 82nd Rd. The driver didn’t believe there was sufficient damage to warrant an accident report.

Telephone harassment was reported in the 13000 block of Sixth Road.

A miscellaneous theft was reported in the 31000 block of 55th Dr.

Telephone harassment was reported in the 700 block of Lord Road, Ark City.

DECEMBER 6

The K-9 deputy and his dog were requested by Sumner County’s Sheriff’s deputies to assist them with the execution of a narcotics search warrant in Wellington.

A one vehicle minor injury accident involving a slip patch on the roadway occurred in the 11000 block of US 166.

A theft was reported involving parks taken from an item of KDOT equipment in the 21000 block of K-15.

Deputies were contacted by an out-of-state resident complaining that they were being harassed on Facebook by a Winfield resident.

A person from the IXL area came to this Sheriff’s Office to report a theft of property by a known person.

Deputies, Udall, Winfield and Atlanta fire departments responded to a house fire in the 2000 block of 61st Rd.

The Drug Task Force officers were assisted by deputies and Winfield Police officers with the execution of a search warrant in Winfield.

Deputies were dispatched to assist a truck, with a large load, maneuver through the walking trail overpass on West Madison in Ark City.

A car/deer accident occurred in the 2000 block of US 160.

A firearm was discovered missing from a residence in the 30000 block of K-15.

Two prisoners were transported to the Cowley County jail for the Ark City Police Department.

Several electrical transformer cases were found dumped in the creek in the 3000 block of 111th Rd.

Winfield Police officers were assisted by deputies with a disturbance call in the 1200 block of Lynn.
